Our kitchen does not have any windows and only indirect natural light. To give the feeling of larger space and reflecting some light we created the illusion of a window.

To start we bought an inexpensive mirror with a plasticky and not pleasing looking frame.

We came up with a design to make it look like an actual window. We cut pine decorative moulding using a mitre box to get correct angles and glued the parts on the frame as well as on the mirror directly.

Masking tape was protecting the mirror making it ready for the next step: painting. It took 3 layers of white paint to cover evenly the plasticky frame and the decorative wood.

Despite the masking we need to scratch quite a lot of paint from the mirror itself. The final results looks like expected and certainly fulfills its function nicely in our kitchen.
